About this place
Anmitsu brings together fruit, sweet bean paste and agar jelly, served with dark sugar syrup. One diner who tried it at Kosoan remarked that the fresh and canned fruit, bean paste, agar and syrup worked well together. The menu also includes anmitsu (1,100 yen), cream anmitsu (1,200 yen) and matcha shiratama zenzai (1,200 yen).
For a cooling treat, try the matcha shaved ice with shiratama rice-flour dumplings. A diner who sampled it enjoyed the finely shaved ice and its crisp, granular texture, as well as the shiratama beneath the ice. They noted that the dumplings began to freeze as they ate, so scoop them up sooner if you want to enjoy their original texture.
Kosoan is a traditional sweets shop in Jiyugaoka. Antiques furnish the tea room, and part of the space is also used as a gallery. Diners have mentioned the tatami-mat rooms and seats overlooking the garden. Enjoying matcha and sweets in a traditional Japanese house is part of the tea room’s character.
